Gunter's Quadrant
Local Solar Quadrant with Nocturnal dial on the back. Made after two English originals of Gunter type quadrants of 18th-century, which are on display at the Greenwich Maritime Museum.
On the front, the instrument presents a local height quadrant furnished with a pinule system for establishing the sun's height.
On the backside, there is a nocturnal, like those used by ancient sailors to place the brightest circumpolar stars and aid their nightly observations.
This piece is fashioned of brass and comes complete with wooden stand, cotton plumb line with brass pearl and booklets explaining use and history. The wooden base is ideal for placement of a commemorative plaque in recognition of achievement or an event.
