Altitude Ring Dial - Miniature - Desk Model

Miniature sundial, Height sundial. From 16th-17th centuries.

This dial is a solar altitude clock.  It takes ts name because the parameter of its construction is based on the altitude of the Sun. 

The dial is composed of a circular band perforated by two offsetting symmetrical holes through which the sun rays pass and are projected as a small elongated spot of light on the hourly line etched on the interior of the dial.

Crafted of brass comes complete with wood base and display hook. Accompanied with booklets of use and historical context.
